Honorariums

Artists exhibiting in HIDDEN Rookwood Sculptures 2020 will receive $500 per work. Additional support of $200 per work will be available to artists whose work is being transported more than 200km.

Artists exhibiting in HIDDEN Rookwood Films 2020 will receive $200 per artwork.

Students exhibiting in HIDDEN Rookwood Students 2020 will receive a $100 art materials voucher per artwork.

Sculptures Awards

Rookwood Sculpture Award $10,000

RGC is offering a non-acquisitive award of $10,000 for one artwork. The successful work will be selected by an external panel of judges. The award recipient will be announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Artist at the Armory Award valued at $1,500 (+ $200 for materials) 

Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) is offering a three-month residency at Newington Armory for one artist. RGC will contribute $200 for art materials as part of this award. The successful artist (or collaboration) will have the use of one of the Armory’s studios from May until August 2020 to prepare their work for HIDDEN 2020. The artist is also given the option to base themselves onsite in the residential cottage for the duration of the residency.

Artists proposing a work yet to be made are eligible for this award. To be considered for this award, artists must select this option on the application form and provide contact details for two referees. The successful artist will be selected by Tony Nesbitt (Manager, Events & Activations, SOPA) in consultation with the curator.

Rookwood Sensory Award $1,000

RGC is offering a non-acquisitive award of $1,000 for the sculpture that best encapsulates senses. The Sensory Award recognises a work that engages with more than just the sense of sight by incorporating tactile, auditory and/or olfactory elements. The successful work will be selected by an external panel of judges and will be announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Films Award

Rookwood Films Award $2,000

RGC is offering a non-acquisitive award of $2,000 for one artwork. The successful work will be selected by an external judge. The award recipient will be announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Students Award

Rookwood Student Award $1,000 

RGC is offering a $1,000 art materials voucher for one artwork. The successful artwork will be selected by an external judge and announced at the HIDDEN launch. 

Additional Awards*

Cumberland Council Professional Development Award valued at $1,000 (+ $200 for materials)

Cumberland Council is offering a professional development award to an artist, including supported practice/project development and studio residency in 2021 at Council’s brand-new community arts facility The Granville Centre. This award aims to support an artist in the development of practice and/or projects that creatively and directly engage with the Cumberland community. The Award is open to all HIDDEN artists with a demonstrated connection to Western Sydney through residence, family, work and/or study. To be considered for this award, artists must select this option on the application form. The artist will be selected by Michael Brown (Gallery Director and Cultural Services Coordinator, Cumberland Council) in consultation with the curator, and announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Western Sydney Artist Award $1,000

RGC is offering a non-acquisitive award of $1,000 to support the thriving art scene of Western Sydney. Artists must have a connection to Western Sydney through residence, family, work and/or study. To be considered for this award, artists must select this option on the application form. The successful work will be selected by an external judge and announced at the HIDDEN launch.

First Nations Artist Award $1,000

Dharug Strategic Management Group is offering a $1,000 award to a First Nations Australian Artist exhibiting in HIDDEN 2020. First Nations Australians have the oldest continuous cultures in the world, and as Rookwood Cemetery is located on Dharug country, this First Nations Artist Award acknowledges and supports ongoing connection to Country, community creativity and culture. To be considered for this award, artists must select this option on the application form. The successful work will be selected by an external judge and announced at the HIDDEN launch.

People's Choice Award $500

RGC is offering a $500 people’s choice award. Visitors have the opportunity to vote for their favourite work. The award recipient will be notified the week after HIDDEN closes.

Staff Choice Award $300

Staff at RGC enjoy hosting HIDDEN and voting for their favourie work. The staff choice award recipient will be announced at the HIDDEN launch.
