  • Artists exhibiting in HIDDEN Sculptures 2021 will receive $500 per work, paid after the exhibition opening.
  • Artists exhibition in HIDDEN Students 2021 will receive a $100 art materials voucher per work.
  • Artists exhibiting in HIDDEN Films 2021 will receive $200 per work, paid after the exhibition opening.

Additional support of $200 per work will be available to artists exhibiting in HIDDEN Sculptures, whose sculptures are being transported more than 200km.

Rookwood Sculpture Award $10,000

Rookwood General Cemetery is offering a non-acquisitive award of $10,000 for one artwork exhibited in HIDDEN Rookwood Sculptures 2021. The successful work will be selected by an external panel of judges. The award recipient will be announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Rookwood Films Award $2,000

Rookwood General Cemetery is offering a non-acquisitive award of $2,000 for one artwork exhibited in HIDDEN Rookwood Films. The successful work will be selected by an external panel of judges. The award recipient will be announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Rookwood Students Award valued at $1,000

Rookwood General Cemetery is offering a $1,000 art materials voucher for one artwork selected in HIDDEN Rookwood Students. The successful artwork will be selected by an external judge and announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Muru Award $2,000

Dharug Strategic Management Group is offering a non-acquisitive $2,000 award to a First Nations Australian Artist exhibiting in HIDDEN Rookwood Sculptures, Films and Students. First Nations Australians have the oldest continuous cultures in the world, and as Rookwood Cemetery is located on Dharug land, this award acknowledges and supports ongoing connection to Country, community creativity and culture. The award name ‘Muru’ is the Dharug word for pathways. We invite artists to reflect on metaphors and experiences of pathways, journeys, connections and storytelling. The successful work will be selected by an external judge and announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Artist at the Armory Award valued at $1,500 (+ $200 for materials)

Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) is offering a three-month residency at Newington Armory for one artist. Rookwood General Cemetery will contribute $200 for art materials as part of this award. The successful artist (or collaboration) will have the use of one of the Armory’s studios from May until August 2021 to prepare their work for HIDDEN 2021. The artist is also given the option to base themselves onsite in the residential cottage for the duration of the residency. Sculpture artists proposing a work yet to be made for HIDDEN Rookwood Sculptures 2021 are eligible for this award. The successful artist will be selected by an external judge in consultation with the curator. 

Cumberland Council Professional Development Award (+ $200 for materials)

Cumberland Council is offering a professional development award to an artist (or collaboration), to support them in the development of a 2022 project that creatively and directly engages with the Cumberland community. This award includes mentoring and a studio residency at Council’s brand-new community arts facility The Granville Centre. Artists exhibiting in the HIDDEN Sculptures, Films and Student will be considered for this award, if they have a connection to Western Sydney through residence, family, work and/or study. The artist will be selected by an external judge in consultation with the curator. 

Rookwood Sensory Award $1,000

Rookwood General Cemetery is offering a non-acquisitive award of $1,000 for a sculpture that successfully engages the senses with more than just the sense of sight by incorporating tactile, auditory and/or olfactory elements. The successful work will be selected by an external panel of judges and will be announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Western Sydney Artist Award $1,000

Rookwood General Cemetery is offering a non-acquisitive award of $1,000 to support the thriving art scene of Western Sydney. Artists exhibiting in the Sculptures, Films and Student categories will be considered for this award, if they have a connection to Western Sydney through residence, family, work and/or study. The successful work will be selected by an external judge and announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Nerine Martini Memorial Award $1,000

Rookwood General Cemetery is offering a non-acquisitive award of $1,000 for a work that engages with a current social issue and/or involves working with a community group. This award commemorates Nerine Martini’s vibrant life (1968–2019) and art practice, specifically her socially engaged creative work with community groups and participation in HIDDEN Sculptures. Artists exhibiting in the Sculptures and Student categories will be considered for this award The successful work will be selected by an external judge and announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Elite Funeral Directors Award $1,000

Elite Funeral Directors are offering a non-acquisitive award of $1,000 to the artwork exhibited for HIDDEN Rookwood Sculptures that best addresses the conversation around end of life and the ways in which we honour our departed, while best serving our own mourning journey. The successful artist will be selected by an external judge in consultation with the curator. The award recipient will be announced at the HIDDEN launch.

People's Choice Award $500

Rookwood General Cemetery is offering a $500 people’s choice award. Visitors have the opportunity to vote for their favourite work in HIDDEN Sculptures, Films and Student. The award recipient will be notified the week after HIDDEN closes.

Staff Choice Award $300

Staff at Rookwood enjoy hosting HIDDEN and voting for their favourite works. The staff choice award recipient will be announced at the HIDDEN launch.
