Honorariums

  • Artists exhibiting in HIDDEN Sculptures 2021 will receive $500 per work, paid after the exhibition opening.
  • Artists exhibition in HIDDEN Students 2021 will receive a $200 art materials voucher per work.
  • Artists exhibiting in HIDDEN Films 2021 will receive $200 per work, paid after the exhibition opening.

Additional support of $200 per work will be available to artists whose sculptures are being transported more than 200km.

Awards

Rookwood Sculpture Award $10,000

RGC is offering a non-acquisitive award of $10,000 for one artwork. The successful work will be selected by an external panel of judges. The award recipient will be announced at the HIDDEN launch. Available for all works selected for Rookwood HIDDEN Sculptures.

Rookwood Films Award $2,000

RGC is offering a non-acquisitive award of $2,000 for one artwork. The successful work will be selected by an external panel of judges. The award recipient will be announced at the HIDDEN launch. Available for all works selected for Rookwood HIDDEN Films.

Rookwood Students Award

Rookwood is offering a $1,000 art materials voucher for one artwork. The successful artwork will be selected by an external judge and announced at the HIDDEN launch. Available for all works selected for HIDDEN Rookwood Students.

Muru Award $2,000

Dharug Strategic Management Group is offering a non-acquisitive $2,000 award to a First Nations Australian Artist exhibiting in HIDDEN 2022. First Nations Australians have the oldest continuous cultures in the world, and as Rookwood Cemetery is located on Dharug land, this First Nations Artist Award acknowledges and supports ongoing connection to country, community creativity and culture. The award name ‘Muru’ is the Dharug word for pathways: inviting artists to reflect on metaphors and experiences of pathways, journeys, connections and storytelling. To be considered for this award, artists must select this option on the application form and include a reference to their First Nations heritage in their Artist Bio. The successful work will be selected by an external judge and announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Artist at the Armory Award valued at $1,500 (+ $200 for materials)

Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) is offering a three-month residency at Newington Armory for one artist. RGC will contribute $200 for art materials as part of this award. The successful artist (or collaboration) will have the use of one of the Armory’s studios from May until August 2021 to prepare their work for HIDDEN 2021. The artist is also given the option to base themselves onsite in the residential cottage for the duration of the residency. Sculpture artists proposing a work yet to be made are eligible for this award. To be considered for this award, artists must select this option on the application form and provide contact details for two referees. The successful artist will be selected by Tony Nesbitt (Manager, Events & Activations, SOPA) in consultation with the curator. 

Cumberland Council Professional Development Award valued at $1,000 (+ $200 for materials)

Cumberland Council is offering a professional development award to an artist (or collaboration), to support them in the development of a 2022 project that creatively and directly engages with the Cumberland community. This award includes mentoring and a studio residency at Council’s brand-new community arts facility The Granville Centre. The Award is open to all HIDDEN artists with a demonstrated connection to Western Sydney. To be considered for this award, artists must select this option on the application form. The artist (or collaboration), will be selected by Michael Brown (Gallery Director and Cultural Services Coordinator, Cumberland Council) in consultation with the curator. Available for all works selected for Rookwood HIDDEN Sculptures.

Rookwood Sensory Award $1,000

RGC is offering a non-acquisitive award of $1,000 for a sculpture that successfully engages the senses. The Sensory Award recognises a work that engages with more than just the sense of sight by also incorporating tactile, auditory and/or olfactory elements. The successful work will be selected by an external panel of judges and will be announced at the HIDDEN launch. Western Sydney Artist Award $1,000 RGC is offering a non-acquisitive award of $1,000 to support the thriving art scene of Western Sydney. Artists must have a connection to Western Sydney through residence, family, work and/or study. To be considered for this award, artists must select this option on the application form. The successful work will be selected by an external judge and announced at the HIDDEN launch. Available for all works selected for Rookwood HIDDEN Sculptures.

Nerine Martini Memorial Award $1,000

RGC is offering a non-acquisitive award of $1,000 for socially engaged artwork. It will be awarded to a work that engages with a current social issue; and/or involves working with a community group in the making of the work. This award warmly commemorates Nerine Martini’s vibrant life (1968–2019) and art practice, specifically her socially engaged creative work with community groups and participation in HIDDEN Sculptures. The successful work will be selected by an external judge and announced at the HIDDEN launch.

Elite Funeral Directors Award $1,000

Elite Funeral Directors are offering a non-acquisitive award of $1,000 to the artwork that best addresses the conversation around end of life and the ways in which we honour our departed, whilst best serving our own mourning journey. The successful artist will be selected by Diane Luccitti from Elite Funeral Directors in consultation with the curator. The award recipient will be announced at the HIDDEN launch. Available for all works selected for Rookwood HIDDEN Sculptures.

People's Choice Award $500

RGC is offering a $500 people’s choice award. Visitors have the opportunity to vote for their favourite work. The award recipient will be notified the week after HIDDEN closes.

Staff Choice Award $300

Staff at Rookwood enjoy hosting HIDDEN and the staff choice award recipient will be announced at the HIDDEN launch.
