HIDDEN Rookwood Sculptures is Rookwood General Cemetery's annual public arts program

Announcement: 18 August 2021

Unfortunately, given the current restrictions and climbing COVID case numbers in NSW, particularly in Greater Sydney and Cumberland Council, HIDDEN Rookwood Sculptures will not be able to go ahead this year.

The HIDDEN project team have had discussions with the RGC executive team, and the result is postponing HIDDEN to September 2022. We are extraordinarily disappointed, as we were hoping restrictions would ease after the initial lockdown.

As this is postponing, and not cancelling, we will see you in 2022.

HIDDEN is an outdoor sculpture exhibition that takes place amongst the gardens and graves in one of the oldest sections of Rookwood General Cemetery. The exhibition invites artists to ponder the notion of history, culture, remembrance and love and allows audiences to witness creative expression hidden throughout Australia's largest and most historic cemetery.

The exhibition was established in 2009 to encourage the public to visit and explore Rookwood Cemetery – the oldest, largest and most multicultural cemetery in Australia. Each year the exhibition attracts over 4,000 visitors and significant media coverage. It is a unique opportunity for artists and the community to engage in the cemetery’s contemporary relevance, cultural practices and evocative sense of place. HIDDEN has become a firm favourite on the Sydney cultural calendar. It provides an opportunity for artists to showcase their works and enables us to share the historic Rookwood Cemetery with the wider community.

HIDDEN is an outdoor sculpture exhibition that steps outside the notion of mainstream galleries and typical outdoor sculpture exhibitions.
